Living at the Speed of Kid

Ok, last week’s mystery fever sank my productivity, writing-wise. Then I got the Unreliable Narrator’s bizarre ailment for two days–only my version was the low fever plus achy body and phlegmy upper-respiratory cough–and felt like hell.

Now it’s school vacation for a week that has us living at the speed of kid.

It’s not a bad thing, it’s just you have to give yourself over to loooooong days spent doing all kinds of things that are nothing in particular. You know, where someone might take a stuffed snake and put one end to each ear and pretend he’s rocking out to music on his “headphones.” Cracking himself up, of course.

And days filled with sample exchanges like this:

Me: Who’s the boss in our family?

UN: Daddy.

Me: You sure? Not me?

UN: No. Daddy’s the boss at work.

Me: But what about at home?

UN: And at home.

Me: That’s what he thinks.

UN: Both at work and at home.

Me: Geez, he has you brainwashed well!

UN: Actually? I boss you and daddy.

Color me pwned.
